Beach party, picnics: best moments of Easter Holidays
Event centres and beaches operated at full capacity last weekend as hundreds of revellers took part in various activities to climax this year’s Easter celebrations.
Church auditoriums saw worshippers, clad in mainly white outfit, dancing and singing praises to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Sunday while some children as well as new converts were baptised on the day.
Unlike the last two years, the easing of COVID-19 restrictions early in March this year somewhat enabled citizens to interact more and “do the things they could not do during the lockdown.”
In addition to picnics by many churches, men and women of all ages spent time at the Dansoman beach in Accra on Monday where there was dancing competition, horse riding, lime and spoon race, ‘tug of peace’ games.
Children were not left out as they were kept busy with bouncy castles and swings at playgrounds.
The congregation at Star of the Sea Catholic Church at Dansoman Last Stop, Precious Stone International Ministry at Sakaman, Methodist Church of Ghana at Odorkor Official Town as well as Christ Resurrection Church, featured prominently in the celebrations.
The Associate Pastor of the Christ Resurrection Church, Accra, said the gathering was to enable the youth take up ‘healthy social activities’ as they continued to preach and spread the gospel.
Despite the bad weather later in the day, he was impressed with the massive turnout by different youth groups and families.
Some of them who spoke to The Spectator said the feast and the social engagement were worthwhile following the long days of fasting and prayer which had enabled them to prepare adequately and renew their faith in God.
Reverend Samuel Nyonyoh, the Parish Pastor of the Shalom Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, preaching the sermon on Sunday, urged Christians not to fear death but be strengthened by the resurrection of power of Jesus Christ.

Many SOEs have been used as mere instruments for personal wealth accumulation –Pres.Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over the misuse of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for personal financial gain by individuals in leadership positions.
Speaking during a meeting with Chief Executives of specified entities under the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) on Thursday, March 13, the President directly attributed the dire state of SOEs to their leadership, accusing chief executives, management teams, and governing boards of prioritising personal enrichment over organisational efficiency.
He pointed to bloated budgets, unjustified allowances, and unnecessary expenditures as factors draining public funds while SOEs continue to rely on government bailouts.
“Many SOEs have been used as mere instruments for personal wealth accumulation by appointees. The chief executives, management, and boards of these enterprises are responsible for this situation. Some SOEs have become perennial loss-makers, draining public funds with bloated budgets, unjustified allowances, and unnecessary expenditures while relying on government bailouts as if entitled to them. Many of these entities are at their lowest point in the entire history of the Fourth Republic,” he said.
President Mahama further noted that many SOEs have been plagued by inefficiencies, corruption, and mismanagement, leading to consistent financial losses. He cited the 2023 State Ownership Report by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), which highlighted systemic inefficiencies and wasteful expenditures within these entities.
He therefore reaffirmed his commitment to reforming under-performing SOEs and ensuring they serve national interests.
He warned that loss-making SOEs will no longer be tolerated and will either be merged, privatised, or closed.
“I will assess you based on your performance. If you do not align with the pace of the reset agenda, you may be asked to step aside. If that adds to the horror movie, so be it,” he added.
