‘He’s never been on the ballot’ – Mahama replies Bawumia over ‘I’ve beaten Mahama twice’ comment

Former President John Dramani Mahama has clapped back at Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over the latter’s claim to have beaten him twice in elections, and will beat him again. and I know how to beat him again’ he made during his flagbearership campaign.
According to Mr. Mahama, Dr. Bawumia has never been his competitor in elections since he has never appeared on a presidential ballot paper, and can therefore not make such claims.
Speaking on the KSM Show, he emphasised that over the years, he has been running against the current President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, therefore Dr. Bawumia should erase that thought.
“That’s what I saw, that he’s beaten me twice and he knows how to beat me again. But I’ve never run against him, his face has never been on a presidential ballot paper.”
“So how can you say you’ve beaten me, I’ve never run against you as a presidential candidate. It’s Nana Addo I ran against in 2012. I beat him and then in 2016 he won and then 2020 he won.”
“So even between Nana Addo and I, l’ve won once, he’s won twice, It’s just that he’s not going to run again but I am sure if he was going to run again, I would’ve equalised,” he stated.
The former President said this following a comment made by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during his NPP flagbearership campaign.
Mr. Mahama, who is the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also advised Dr. Bawumia to focus on his flagbearership race and be sure of a victory before he makes assumptions towards the 2024 national elections.
“It’s a primaries with NPP so he should concentrate on telling NPP and the country what he can do, I don’t know why I’m a ‘bougie’ man for him, he can’t get my name out of his lips,” he said.
Dr Bawumia is in the race with nine others for the NPP’s flagbearer contest. A super delegates conference slated for August 26, 2023 will ensure the number cuts down to five for the main presidential primaries.
The main congress is scheduled for November 4, 2023, where the party will make a final choice among the remaining five hopefuls.

Many SOEs have been used as mere instruments for personal wealth accumulation –Pres.Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over the misuse of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for personal financial gain by individuals in leadership positions.
Speaking during a meeting with Chief Executives of specified entities under the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) on Thursday, March 13, the President directly attributed the dire state of SOEs to their leadership, accusing chief executives, management teams, and governing boards of prioritising personal enrichment over organisational efficiency.
He pointed to bloated budgets, unjustified allowances, and unnecessary expenditures as factors draining public funds while SOEs continue to rely on government bailouts.
“Many SOEs have been used as mere instruments for personal wealth accumulation by appointees. The chief executives, management, and boards of these enterprises are responsible for this situation. Some SOEs have become perennial loss-makers, draining public funds with bloated budgets, unjustified allowances, and unnecessary expenditures while relying on government bailouts as if entitled to them. Many of these entities are at their lowest point in the entire history of the Fourth Republic,” he said.
President Mahama further noted that many SOEs have been plagued by inefficiencies, corruption, and mismanagement, leading to consistent financial losses. He cited the 2023 State Ownership Report by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), which highlighted systemic inefficiencies and wasteful expenditures within these entities.
He therefore reaffirmed his commitment to reforming under-performing SOEs and ensuring they serve national interests.
He warned that loss-making SOEs will no longer be tolerated and will either be merged, privatised, or closed.
“I will assess you based on your performance. If you do not align with the pace of the reset agenda, you may be asked to step aside. If that adds to the horror movie, so be it,” he added.
