Mahama promises to hold NDC appointees who abuse office accountable
Former President and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has promised to hold accountable officials who abuse their office in his administration when voted as President in December.
According to him, those in government positions are there to serve the nation and must be ready to answer for their actions.
Speaking at a Townhall Meeting yesterday, August 12, at Bukom Square, the former President said individuals seeking to enrich themselves should look to the private sector instead of entering public office.
“If people want to come into government and make money then we can’t help you, go into the private centre, we will help you set up a cassava processing plant go and process cassava, employ young people, don’t and come and take public office,” he said.
Mahama stated that any public officeholder who abuses their position should expect to be held accountable.
“Once you take public office you must be prepared to be held to account,” he said.
This notwithstanding, the former president acknowledged the challenges of prosecuting members of his own party or government but empathised the need to do so to ensure accountability and combat corruption.
