Meet four shot stoppers competing for Goalkeeper of the Month May/June

Four outstanding shot stoppers have been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the month award for May/June, 2023.

Champions, Medeama SC’ goalkeeper Felix Kyei has been nominated alongside Solomon Agbasi of Dreams FC, Benjamain Asare of Great Olympics and Abdul Ganiu Mohammed of Karela United.

Bawa Lord Mantey of Dreams FC won the first award in September with Samartex shot stopper, Lawrence Ansah winning in November and January. Tamale City goalkeeper, Cisse Tijani won in February with Medeama SC goalkeeper winning the award in March and William Essu of Legon Cities winning the award in April.

The award scheme was introduced by the Ghana Football Association in collaboration with the National Ex Goalkeepers Union to recognize and encourage shot stoppers in the betPawa Premier League.

Rospak FC narrow gap with Zone Two leaders Swedru All Blacks after hard fought win

Sekondi Rospak FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over league leaders Swedru All Blacks, extending their impressive home winning streak to eleven consecutive matches this season. 

Rudolf Junior Mensah opened the scoring for Swedru All Blacks in the 29th minute, but Joseph Ntow Ansah equalized for Sekondi Rospak FC just before halftime. 

Stephen Anthony Kofi sealed the win for the home side with a penalty kick two minutes into the second half. The defeat marks Swedru All Blacks’ second consecutive loss, leaving them just a point ahead of Sekondi Rospak FC.

In another Zone Two match, Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs defeated Sefwi All Stars 2-0 at the Robert Mensah Park on Sunday.

Hafiz Alhassan scored the opener in the 43rd minute, while Godfred Eshun sealed the win with a stoppage-time goal. The victory propelled Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs to third place in the league table with 37 points.

Meanwhile, King Faisal and PAC Academy played out a goalless draw in a thrilling encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

 Despite numerous scoring opportunities, neither team could find the back of the net.

 King Faisal’s Michael Osei was named player of the match. The draw left King Faisal with 27 points, seventh in the league table.

Hohoe United defeat Na God FC to maintain four-points lead in Zone Three 

Zone Three leaders Hohoe United avoided a second consecutive winless game for the sixth time this season, edging relegation-threatened Na God FC 1-0 at the Hohoe Sports Stadium. 

Sena Ati scored the decisive goal in the 58th minute, following a goalless first half as Hohoe United remain atop the Zone Three table with 45 points.

Elsewhere Koforidua Semper Fi staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 1-1 draw against former Premier League side Okwawu United, extending their unbeaten league run to five matches.

 Aryeetey Ayikwei gave Okwawu United a first-half lead, while Ebenezer Kobia equalized for Semper Fi from the penalty spot ten minutes into the second half.

Meanwhile new boys Port City FC recorded a vital away win against FC Nania on Saturday. 

Bernard Quarcoo’s 50th-minute goal proved decisive, securing maximum points for Port City FC who now trail leaders Hohoe United by just four points (41) in the league table.
