Meteors to finish off Mozambique

Barnieh – Tipped to score again tomorrow
The Black Meteors of Ghana will be beaming with confidence and determined to produce a masterclass performance as they face off with Mozambique in the second leg of the TotalEnergies CAF U-23 championship qualifiers tomorrow at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Meteors go into the game with a huge advantage after their 2-1 win in the first leg encounter away at Mozambique last weekend.
Ghana’s sensational budding stars, took the game to their opponents and managed to secure a win, following a brace from Daniel Afriyie-Barnieh to head into tomorrow’s game as favourites.
The Meteors, who arrived in Accra on Tuesday had since moved to Kumasi where they camped and applied finishing touches to their game to completely see off their opponents tomorrow.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his charges were a delight to watch in their first encounter and would be determined to replicate their performance to secure back-to-back wins in their campaign.
Skipper Barnieh and Sylvester Simba who were a mouthful for the Mozambicans would also be geared up to make a tick in tomorrow’s game and ensure the Meteors smoothly sailed to the next round.
The Mozambicans, however, cannot be completed written off as they also possessed some attacking threats and would be looking forward to overturning the result in their favour.
They made a good case for themselves especially in the first half of the first leg encounter where they possessed the game and fired some shots on target, but were dealt with by Danlad Ibrahim.
Again, the Mozambicans also showed a good fighting spirit after pulling a goal back in the dying minutes of the game to keep their hopes high ahead of tomorrow’s game.
They would be hoping to continue from where they left off and certain to give their host a run for their money.
An early goal in their favour would be a huge boost which they would fancy as they would set out to frustrate and upset the Ghanaians to walk away with victory.
The aggregate winner of the encounter would face either DR Congo or Algeria in the third and final round of qualifiers set for March 2023.

Many SOEs have been used as mere instruments for personal wealth accumulation –Pres.Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over the misuse of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for personal financial gain by individuals in leadership positions.
Speaking during a meeting with Chief Executives of specified entities under the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) on Thursday, March 13, the President directly attributed the dire state of SOEs to their leadership, accusing chief executives, management teams, and governing boards of prioritising personal enrichment over organisational efficiency.
He pointed to bloated budgets, unjustified allowances, and unnecessary expenditures as factors draining public funds while SOEs continue to rely on government bailouts.
“Many SOEs have been used as mere instruments for personal wealth accumulation by appointees. The chief executives, management, and boards of these enterprises are responsible for this situation. Some SOEs have become perennial loss-makers, draining public funds with bloated budgets, unjustified allowances, and unnecessary expenditures while relying on government bailouts as if entitled to them. Many of these entities are at their lowest point in the entire history of the Fourth Republic,” he said.
President Mahama further noted that many SOEs have been plagued by inefficiencies, corruption, and mismanagement, leading to consistent financial losses. He cited the 2023 State Ownership Report by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), which highlighted systemic inefficiencies and wasteful expenditures within these entities.
He therefore reaffirmed his commitment to reforming under-performing SOEs and ensuring they serve national interests.
He warned that loss-making SOEs will no longer be tolerated and will either be merged, privatised, or closed.
“I will assess you based on your performance. If you do not align with the pace of the reset agenda, you may be asked to step aside. If that adds to the horror movie, so be it,” he added.
