Sunday school children dramatise passion of Christ

Sunday School Children of Christ the King Catholic Church at Effiakuma in the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese of the Western Region dramatised the passion of Jesus Christ.
The children started from Station One where Jesus was condemned to death and went through the 14 stations till Jesus was removed from the cross and placed on His mother’s lap before burial.
Rev Fr. Daniel Pal in a sermon said the women who followed Jesus were feeling His sufferings that was why many of them were weeping.
He said in any situation there were people who either wept or laughed and that though Jesus was being whipped and caned, some people never saw any seriousness in Jesus’ sufferings so this class of people laughed while others wept bitterly.
He said Simon from Cyrene like Nicodemus was secret admirer of Christ but they could not openly declare their support so coming from the countryside and meeting Jesus in that sorrowful situation, he agreed to help carry the cross.
Fr. Pal said God would always send a helper to alleviate the suffering of His children if only “we allow Him to come into our lives”.
He said Jesus was still obedient under intense sufferings because it was His Father’s will that He must suffer, die and rise again on the third day to reunite man and God and open Heaven’s gate for humanity adding “Jesus had the power to refuse to suffer but obedience pays”.
He said the third fall of Jesus was the perfect one and that cemented the Trinity, “God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit all three in One God.
He said throughout the 14 stations Jesus Christ never cursed any of the soldiers who were beating Him though it was a big humiliation.
He said, “When we offer our lives to God we surely get redemption but how many times do we go to bed or wake up in the morning without giving thanks to God for the protection, guidance and having led us through the day”.
Fr. Pal said the glory of God was manifested when Jesus rose from the dead and again manifested what He earlier said so Christians should be patient and pray continuously for the glory of God was so close.

Many SOEs have been used as mere instruments for personal wealth accumulation –Pres.Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over the misuse of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for personal financial gain by individuals in leadership positions.
Speaking during a meeting with Chief Executives of specified entities under the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) on Thursday, March 13, the President directly attributed the dire state of SOEs to their leadership, accusing chief executives, management teams, and governing boards of prioritising personal enrichment over organisational efficiency.
He pointed to bloated budgets, unjustified allowances, and unnecessary expenditures as factors draining public funds while SOEs continue to rely on government bailouts.
“Many SOEs have been used as mere instruments for personal wealth accumulation by appointees. The chief executives, management, and boards of these enterprises are responsible for this situation. Some SOEs have become perennial loss-makers, draining public funds with bloated budgets, unjustified allowances, and unnecessary expenditures while relying on government bailouts as if entitled to them. Many of these entities are at their lowest point in the entire history of the Fourth Republic,” he said.
President Mahama further noted that many SOEs have been plagued by inefficiencies, corruption, and mismanagement, leading to consistent financial losses. He cited the 2023 State Ownership Report by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), which highlighted systemic inefficiencies and wasteful expenditures within these entities.
He therefore reaffirmed his commitment to reforming under-performing SOEs and ensuring they serve national interests.
He warned that loss-making SOEs will no longer be tolerated and will either be merged, privatised, or closed.
“I will assess you based on your performance. If you do not align with the pace of the reset agenda, you may be asked to step aside. If that adds to the horror movie, so be it,” he added.
