A clarion call has once again gone up to African countries to promote trade among themselves by purchasing locally manufactured products on the continent.

The initiative when given the chance would create more jobs and enough wealth for the youth.

The Kenyan High Commissioner to Ghana, MrEliphasMugendiBarine said this when he unveiled 1,000 car batteries manufactured in Kenya by the Kenya  Associated Battery Manufacturing (ABM) EA Ltd,  at a ceremony at the Agility Logistics Park at Tema.

He said Africa was endowed with immense resources and wealth and that there was the need for individuals and entrepreneurs to invest their monies in trading to support the aspirations of the continent to develop through trade links.

Making reference to the ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ initiative, he said the continent could do better than it had achieved, and therefore, appealed to Africans to re-direct their decision on trade within the continent and encourage one another along the way.

He said forging closer links with one another in trade and investment was the best way to change the African continent in 10 years.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Yesudem Company Limited (Ghana), Ghanaian importer of the batteries, Mrs. Gifty Fianu called on Ghanaians to patronise the product, adding that the first samples of the products were brought into the country and tested by the Ghana Standards Authority, and thatrecommendations were made to the manufacturers before the arrival of the final products.

Since the institution of the Heritage Month celebration in Ghana, it has offered citizens opportunities of a lifetime to learn about their cultures and lifestyles.

Ghana’s version is observed in the month of March, coinciding with the country’s Independence Day celebrations on March 6.

Heritage Month features festivals, food fairs, arts, crafts, and music events to highlight the economic and social value of preserving national heritage.

Though a brainchild of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the celebration has been driven to greater heights by local media with the organisation of several events to create the needed euphoria.

Among the events are the Heritage Caravan and Back To Your Village Food Bazaar powered by Accra-based Citi FM and Citi TV, Wear Ghana Festival and the Gɔbɛ festival powered by 3News.

The Heritage Caravan is a road trip which takes patrons across more than half of Ghana’s regions to offer a distinctive road trip that allows participants to explore the various regions of Ghana, providing an up-close encounter with the country’s historical and cultural heritage.

In addition to these roles played by the media, news anchors and other presenters appear on screens immaculately garbed in locally made outfits, bringing out the beauty of our traditions.

Today, The Spectator newspaper selected a few of the media personalities that are working to give the celebration a global dimension to project the country.
