The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, says Ghanaians have become more open with infertility issues, leading to seeking help early and reducing stigma.
That, she said, falls in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) four which enjoins the world to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong education opportunities for all.
Mrs Akufo-Addo noted this at the 11th Merck Foundation Africa and Asia Luminary held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
The two day event, organised by the Merck Foundation, was held from October 29-30, brought together first ladies from Africa and Asia as well as over 400 in-person and virtual participants.
Mrs Akufo-Addo attributed these gains to Merck Foundation for its educational and awareness drive that has seen 189 scholarships offered to Ghanaian doctors in diverse and critical disciplines.
She mentioned that the scholarships have made a substantial contribution to enhancing access to equitable and quality healthcare solutions in many underserved specialties.
“It has truly transformed the landscape of occupation care and healthcare access and awareness in Ghana. The Merck foundation ‘More than a Mother’ ambassador programme has today seen a grand swell of support in Ghana,” she added.
