Global Evangelical Church, Compassion International plant trees at Akotoshie
The Global Evangelical Church, Kuntunse in collaboration with Compassion International, a Non-Governmental Organisation had undertaken tree planting at Akotoshie No.2 in Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Rev. Emmanuel Homeli in-charge of the Global Evangelical Church at Kuntunse said the exercise was their contribution to the President’s call for Ghanaians to plant trees to mark the Green Ghana Day.
He said the church in partnership with Compassion International Ghana,was planting over 19,000 tree seedlings across the regions of Ghana.
Mr Kobina Yeboah Okyere, National Director of Compassion International, Ghana, said his organisation intended to plant trees on annual basis and would monitor the seedlings to grow, to preserve the environment.
He said some of the seedling were planted around the Akotoshie Junior and Primary School building which suffered a rip off in a recent storm.
Mr Emmanuel Kyere, Amasaman District Director of Forestry Services Division tasked the school children and the community at large to water and nurture the trees until they grow.
He said, trees served as wind breaks, shade, timber and fuel, and protected the environment also.
