Hundreds feted as Muslims celebrate birth of Prophet Mohammed
Hundreds of Muslims last Saturday turned out in their numbers to commemorate the birth of Prophet Mohammed at Fadama in Accra.
It was under the theme, “Inter faith harmony; An Instrument of Peace and Global Peace and Stability.”
In attendance were the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former President, John Dramani Mahama.
The faithful of all ages filled the New Fadama Sheikh Sharubutu Astro Turf Park as others had to occupy the frontage of the New Fadama Basic ‘3’ School buildings to witness the event.
The over 10-hour programme which started at 8pm till Sunday dawn and led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, attracted several Muslim scholars, politicians, Muslim chiefs and their representatives from other parts of the country.
The occasion was used to extol the virtues of Prophet Mohammed as poems and songs were sang to honour the founder of Islamic, one of the three Abrahamic religions.
Benevolent and spirited individuals provided free food and hot cups of tea while others served grilled meat and chicken to keep the participants awake as business-minded individuals also displayed assorted Muslim regalia, the Quran and other Holy items for sale.
In a speech read on his behalf, Dr Sharubutu urged factions in the Bawku conflict to use dialogue to resolve their differences instead of resorting to arms.
According to him, the people had suffered enough and the time had come to smoke the peace pipe and end the conflict that had brought untold hardship to their own people.
“Prophet Mohammed is a man of peace and a great leader who dispenses justice irrespective of one’s religion; that is why I am praying for peace in other parts of the world. Just give peace a chance and let life return to normalcy,” he added.
