Kurt Okraku to attend inauguration of TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Friday

Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, will attend the inauguration of the state-of-the-art brand new TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Friday, August 16, 2024.

The President is among high profile personalities in the country invited for the memorable event in the mining town.

President Edwin Simeon-Okraku and his entourage will arrive in Tarkwa on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

The new-look TNA Stadium is set to give a significant boost to the growth of 2022-23 Premier League champions, Medeama SC, and other lower division clubs in Tarkwa and adjoining areas, in particular, and to the community, in general.

Medeama SC will take on Asante Kotoko in an exhibition match to officially open the stadium in what is expected to be a football festival in Tarkwa on Friday August 16, 2024. Kick off time is 18:00GMT (6pm).

The new TNA Stadium is expected to serve as the home ground of Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League pending approval from the Club Licensing Department of the Ghana Football Association.

Nations FC’s victory moves them back into the top four as they continue their strong campaign, while Hearts have slipped to 6th position with 37 points.

Ghana’s Theophilus Akugre selected for 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt

Ghana’s Theophilus Aberenga Akugre has been selected among 56 officials for training in Cairo ahead of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Akugre, an assistant referee, joins 14 other assistant referees from across the continent who will officiate during the biennial tournament, scheduled for April 27 – May 19, 2025.

Theophilus Akugre has been on the radar of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following successful training programs last year.

 In May 2024, Akugre traveled to Cairo alongside Reginald Collins Amoah and Seth Abletor for the new CAF/FIFA Referee Course.

This marks the second Ghanaian referee assigned to a tournament this year. Centre Referee Reginald Collins Amoah is currently in Morocco for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, where he officiated the match between Somalia and Tunisia on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
