One Man Supporter reveals why he organised a funeral for Sir Bobby Charlton

Abraham Boakye, affectionately called One Man Supporter, has revealed the rationale behind Sir Bobby Charlton’s funeral in Ghana.
One Man Supporter, president of Ghana National Supporters Union, GHANSU, on Monday, November 13, 2023 led the Union to organise a funeral for the ex-England and Manchester United legend at Tesano in Accra.
Speaking to the media on the rationale, Mr.Abraham Boakye revealed that Sir Bobby Charlton named him One Man Supporter.
He disclosed that during the Ecuador 95 U-17 World Cup, he was barely the only Ghanaian amid numerous Brazilian supporters.
This notwithstanding, he was very active and cheered the Ghanaian team to victory regardless of the opposition.
In the end Ghana won the U-17 World Cup.
Against this backdrop, he said, Bobby Charlton who was then a pundit on BBC , said ” This is a lone ranger, One Man Supporter, One person supporting the whole country.”
Abraham Boakye said, on his return to Ghana, all the top local newspapers including Ghanaian Times, The Spectator and Daily Graphic had carried what Bobby Charlton said.
According to Mr.Abraham Boakye, he then adopted the name which has had an impact on support for Ghana football over the years.
Against this backdrop, he said the funeral was in appreciation to Sir Bobby Charlton’s influence in his life and subsequently in Ghana Football.
He expressed his condolences to England, Manchester and family of the former football icon.
Sir Robert Charlton CBE was an English professional footballer who played as a midfielder or centre-forward.
Widely considered one of the greatest players of all time, he was a member of the England team that won the 1966 FIFA World Cup, the year he also won the Ballon d’Or.
