RescueGFAProtest: Kurt Must Go- Group petitions Sports Ministry
A group of football enthusiasts and stakeholders have petitioned the Ministry of Sports to rescue the Ghana Football Association under the leadership of Kurt Okraku.
The group known as the Ghana Football Stakeholders Forum, took to the streets today to protest against the GFA President, Kurt Okraku.
According to them in a petition received by the Chief Accountant of the ministry, Dr. Haruna Osman Tweneboah, there is mismanagement of Ghana football at the highest level.
Something they said needed urgent redress from other higher authorities in the country.
Addressing the gathering, Mr.Abraham Boakye, affectionately called One Man Supporter said, there is a lot of rot in Ghana football spearheaded by the President, Kurt Okraku.
According to him, with what is happening under this leadership, the country’s football will collapse if stakeholders like him fail to speak up.
He therefore called on the President, Speaker of Parliament, the Judiciary and other opinion leaders to speak up and stop the upcoming election scheduled for tomorrow.
This he said will allow for some investigations into the activities of the Association for the past four years.
Micky Charles on his part said Ghana football has deteriorated in the past four years under this administration with nothing to show.
He said those who were disqualified ahead of the elections are in court, however, adamant GFA leadership are in Tamale preparing to go for elections tomorrow.
Against this backdrop, they are asking that they halt the elections and ensure things are properly addressed.
Dr. Haruna Osman Tweneboah applauded the organizers and the police for overseeing a peaceful protest, adding that their petition would be handed over to the appropriate quarters for action to be taken.
The protest started at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, through the Ring Road, to the GFA Head Office, and later to the national cathedral site, the Accra Stadium and ended at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Accra.
The #RescueGFANow was led by prominent figures such as Abraham Boakye, alias ‘One Man Supporter’, a former football administrator Charles Kojo Ntim alias Micky Charles gospel musicians; Nicholas Omane Acheampong, Charles, and Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, alias Ampong.
