Salma Mumin Foundation pays medical bills for patients

The Salma Mumin Foundation whose founder is, Salma Mumin an Actress, has paid hospital bills of 10 needy patients admitted at the Upper West Regional Hospital and the Wa Municipal Hospitals.

The Foundation paid a total of GH¢5,095.00 medical bills of the selected patients to mark the actress birthday this year.

Ms Mumin who hails from Wa, the Upper West Region indicated that she established the Foundation to support the needy through the contribution of her widow’s mite for the good of society.

“I decided to support the sick this year because I have come to terms with patients who are unable to pay their hospital bills and it was not a pleasant experience so I thought I could do this to assist a fraction of such people with the little I have”, she stated.

The Head of Hospital Welfare at the Social Welfare Unit in the region, Mr Enoch Shirazudeen Biliguo who helped to identify the patients said there were over 300 more of such persons who needed help to settle their bills and expressed gratitude to the actress for helping to reduce the number.

“As a Social Welfare Department, we get daily reports on people who are unable to pay their hospital bills and we also are constrained financially so we are happy to note that an individual has taken it upon herself to assist in that regard”, he said.

He encouraged the actress to expand her benevolent acts to include more patients in future to enable the hospitals offset some of the effects of the unpaid bills.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiary patients at the Wa Municipal Hospital, the Hospital’s Administrator, Mr Samson Abu who was overwhelmed by the gesture also commended Ms Mumin for the gesture.

“Considering the operation of hospitals, you will realise that most of our items are not reusable leading to increased recurrent cost, so if these consumables are used on people who are unable to pay, then it becomes a burden on the hospital as some of them even abscond without the knowledge of the healthcare providers”, he said and thanked the foundation for the support.

With the halp of Unichem Ghana Limited, a Pharmaceutical Company in Accra, the actress again also presented boxes of hand sanitisers and other hospital supplies to the two facilities for healthcare delivery.

The beneficiary patients expressed their appreciation to the benefactor.
