Takoradi-based business woman enstooled Nkosuohemaa of Nsuta Bonkrong
Nana Frimpomaa Atakora Amoh-Yeboah
There is a saying that “a delivering woman is not given a crown until the placenta is out”.
So will the selfless and dedicated service rendered by a Takoradi-based business woman would have been in vain if the elders, opinion leaders and people of Nsuta Bonkrong in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana had not whole-heartedly appreciated her efforts towards the development of the area.
In light of her philanthropism, Mrs. Theresa Amoh-Yeboah has been enstooled Nkosuohemaa (Development Queen) of Nsuta Bonkrong with stool name, Nana Frimpomaa Atakora Amoh-Yeboah I.
The honour bestowed on her buttresses the point of honouring hardworking personalities while they are living rather than giving them posthumous recognition.
Altruism has propelled Mrs. Amoh-Yeboah to her present position as the development queen of her area.
Just as there is a good woman behind every successful man, so there is a very responsible, humble and tolerant man behind every successful woman.
There is no gainsaying that Nana Frimponmaa Atakora Amoh-Yeboah and her better half, Mr. Justice Amoh-Yeboah, President of JUSTMOH Construction Limited, one of Ghana’s leading construction firms whose project execution cannot be questioned in relation to quality delivery, have lived up to expectation and deserve praises.
The colourful ceremony which was well attended by people from all walks of life including traditional rulers, business executives, friends of the Nkosuohemaa and the husband, saw rich display of Ashanti tradition and culture.
Also in attendance were the clergy from various denominations who were there to support and show appreciation to Nana Atakora Amoh-Yeboah I who has over the years supported community and church activities.
She swore the Oath of Allegiance to the Acting President of the Nsutaman Traditional Council, Nananom and the people to signify her acceptance of the position accorded her and to abide by the rules, regulations and responsibilities that go with her position as the Nkosuohemaa , which is not only to facilitate the development of Nsuta Bonkrong alone but the entire Sekyere Central District.
A grand durbar was held in her honour where she was presented to the world to begin her journey and work.
DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
The Nsuta Bonkrong Nkosuohemaa who is people-centred and has a soft spot for the underprivileged in society has established the MAMA THESS Foundation as a special purpose vehicle for her philanthropic programmes. One of the priority areas of the Foundation is investment in girl-child education. A number of young girls in both Takoradi where she plies her business and Nsuta Bonkrong, her home town, have benefitted greatly from her generosity and are in school where she caters for all their needs to enable them access quality education and reach their goals. Teenage pregnancy is another concern of the Nkosuohemaa as she has devoted a lot of time, energy and resources to curb this canker.
SUPPORT FOR THE CHURCH
Being a devout Christian, she has collaborated with the husband to invest in the construction of the Nsuta Bonkrong Anglican Church, a project which started in 2007 to give a befitting place of worship to the Anglican Congregation. She has supported other church projects and the construction of a prayer centre at Adansi Kusa.
Love for children
As a responsible mother, she has extended her love not only to her biological children but also to the underprivileged children with special needs as well as orphans. It is, therefore, not surprising that, she is the Honorary Mother of the Twin- City Special School where she ensures the children are well catered for. The Kejebil Children’s Home in the Ahanta West Municipality in the Western Region is another beneficiary of her generous contribution to the well-being of children. She makes annual donations to the orphanage.
MOTIVATION
Nana Frimpomaa Atakora Amoh-Yeboah I has further indicated that, being blessed by the Almighty God makes it imperative for her to be a blessing to the have-nots.
“I have reached where I am by God’s grace and I can only show my appreciation to God by helping others.
“I will continue to do all I can to help as many people as I can so far as I have the strength with the help of my Maker”, she has stressed.
SUPPORT BASE
Nana Frimpomaa Atakora Amoh-Yeboah I who is married to Mr Justice Amoh, the President of Justmoh Construction Limited counts her husband as the strength and inspiration behind her work.
“He has always stood by me and pushed me to do more even when the going was tough. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my husband for standing by me from day one since I embarked on this philanthropic journey” she said.
FUTURE
She has promised to do more in her power as the new Nkosuohemaa to bring more development to her people and commended, Nana Osei Bosompem III, the Adako Jachiehene and Acting President of the Nsutaman Traditional Council, Nana Tutuwaa III, Adako Jachiehemaa, Nana Aboagye Sakyi, Nsuta Bonkrong Odikro, the chiefs, elders and people for the trust reposed in her and assured of working to meet their expectations.
Nana Amoh-Yeboah I has appealed to all Ghanaians to do the little they can to help better the lives of the unprivileged.
JUSTICE AMOH
Mr Justice Amoh who was obviously enthused about the elevation of his wife to the position was seen with her throughout the ceremony and promised to continue to stand by her in her new role to impact more lives.
HOUSE 2 FRATERNITY (H2F)
Mr Amoh affectionately referred to as “Uncle Justmoh” is also one of the patrons of the H2F and despite his busy schedule, participates actively in the fraternity’s activities. It was, therefore, not out of place that the administrator of H2F, Esther Eduwah Hagan led a team from Takoradi to support the grand enstoolment of Mrs Theresa Amoh-Yeboah as the Nkosuohemaa of Nsuta Bonkrong in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region.

Mr Joseph Amankwah, the Director of Ozone Layer and Climate Change at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has urged the youth to take a proactive stance on issues related to ozone depletion, emphasising that their future would be most affected by its consequences.
Speaking during a student engagement event at the Ghana Secondary School (GHANASS) in Koforidua, he highlighted the critical role young people played in tackling climate-related challenges.
Mr Amankwah explained that human activities, such as the use of certain chemicals, were significantly contributing to the depletion of the ozone layer and driving climate change.
He said it was important to educate the youth on these issues, encouraging them to share this knowledge with their families to foster a broader understanding and active participation in climate action.
He urged the education sector to integrate lessons on the ozone layer, the causes of its depletion, and its links to climate change into the curriculum.
The event, organised by the EPA in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was designed to foster environmental awareness and promote a sense of responsibility among young people.
Mr Amankwah noted that ozone layer depletion was affecting everyone, including children, as it alters weather patterns and threatens the natural environment.
He highlighted the need for young people to develop ‘green skills’ to adapt to the challenges of climate change and to understand ways to combat it.
He added that World Ozone Day, observed every September, would focus on youth engagement in environmental issues, to help them understand the long-term consequences of ozone depletion and climate change.
Mr Amankwah also discussed the harmful impact of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), a major chemical contributor to ozone depletion.
He explained that household appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners were common sources of CFC emissions in Ghana.
Many uncertified technicians work on these appliances, often releasing harmful chemicals into the atmosphere due to improper handling, he noted.
To address this, he urged appliance repairers to obtain proper certification and training, emphasising that unqualified repairs not only harm the environment but also endangered public health.

Small-scale miners schooled on health hazards of mining with mercury
Mr Lovelace Sarpong (right) addressing the participants
Some Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners in the Ashanti and Central regions have been sensitised on the potential health dangers humans are exposed to with the use of mercury in gold processing.
The sensitisation which was organised by PlanetGOLD Ghana project was to raise awareness about the negative impacts on the use of mercury in mining activities.
According to the PlanetGOLD Ghana Project Coordinator, Mr Lovelace Sarpong, the use of mercury in artisanal small-scale mining pose health challenges that affects the nervous, digestive and immune systems, lungs and kidneys; and may be fatal.
Some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) that benefited from the exercise were Amansie Central, Asante Akim North, Amansie South, Amansie West, Bekwai, and Adansi North in the Ashanti Region, and Upper Denkyira East (Dunkwa-on-Offin) and Upper Denkyira West (Diaso) in the Central Region.
Additionally, he said inorganic salts of mercury were corrosive to the skin, eyes and gastrointestinal tract, and may induce kidney toxicity if ingested.
He stated that the PlanetGOLD Project has conducted several initiatives to raise awareness on reducing mercury exposure among artisanal and small-scale gold mining actors in the country.
It was to promote mercury-free mining practices in line with Ghana’s obligations under the Minamata Convention on Mercury, support the formalisation of the ASGM sector while advocating the adoption of the CRAFT Code and responsible supply chains, and raise awareness on the availability of mercury-free alternatives.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Area Head for Konongo, Mr Dawood Abbas, underscored the importance of government’s environmental regulations and EPA’s role in ensuring compliance within the ASGM sector.
He encouraged miners to prioritise environmental stewardship to gain community trust and secure a Social License to Operate (SLO) and reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to enforce its commitments under the Minamata Convention.
