Team Hubes Dance Crew emerges winners of Ghana DanceSport League 2024

Saturday, October 5, saw the inaugural edition of the Ghana DanceSport League, with Team Hubes Dance Crew winning the number 1 spot.

They snatched the coveted spot from United Kings Academy, 4Bent Dance Crew, Asa Academy, Flames Dance Company, and BAS Academy.

This came off at the Street Dance Fiesta of the 10th edition of the Ghana Dance Festival at the Alliance Francaise.

The DanceSport League had a presentation style format, where dance crews were required to perform their own routines for all rounds. The 1st stage saw all six dance crews perform their routines, and the top four, based on creativity, team work, execution, and showmanship, moved on to the 2nd stage.

The top four balloted to determine who they were going against in their respective fixtures. Team Hubes went against 4bent Dance Crew, beating them to qualify to the finals, while United Dance Academy went against Asa Dance Crew, beating them to qualify for the finals.

To determine the 3rd place, a fixture between 4bent Dance Crew and Asa Dance Academy was held, where 4bent clinched the 3rd place with a no-show from Asa Academy.

The final showdown saw Team Hubes and United Kings Academy in a fixture, where Team Hubes emerged the winner of the league, to the delight of judges and the cheering audience.

Team Hubes, representing Korle Gonno in Accra, won GH₵ 4,000 for 1st place. United Kings Academy, hailing from Abesim in Sunyani, won GH₵ 2000 for 2nd place. 4Bent Dance Crew representing Dansoman in Accra, won GH₵ 1000 for 3rd place. All top three clubs were given medals for participation.

The judges for the DanceSport League were Adjetey Sowah, the 1986 World Dance champion, Dr. Terry Bright Ofosu, dance lecturer at the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana and the 1989 National Dance Champion, and Yvonne “Laladzy” Okyere, the CEO of the all-ladies dance crew, Flawless Dance Studio.

According to Robert Klah, founder of the Ghana DanceSport League, “Dance is a sport. When dance made its way to the Olympics, this truth was further amplified. On the back of dance being a sport, DanceSport Ghana has been founded to promote dance as a sport, and we are happy to inaugurate the Ghana DanceSport League (Professional).”

He added that “Finally, dance athletes can look forward to an annual league to participate in while developing their career. Our next line of action is the inauguration of the Ghana DanceSport School League, which will cater to the amateur dance community. “

“We already have affiliations with international dancesport organizations and we are looking forward to creating avenues for our dance athletes to participate in such events. To this end, we are looking forward to having DanceSport conversations making its way to regular sport programs, because we are here to stay,” he said.

The inaugural edition of the Ghana DanceSport League was part of main activities of the Street Dance Fiesta of the 10th edition of the Ghana Dance Festival. It was preceded by a dance workshop featuring DWP Academy and its sensational members including Lisa Quama, Endurance Grand, Demzy Baye, King Nature and Richael.

Following the workshop, guests were treated to performances from the best talents in the street dance, including the Millitantz Dance Family, Arenees Dance Crew, Flawless Dance Studio, 4bent Dance Crew, Black Illusion Dance Crew, and many more.

To spice up the performances, Nila Dance Academy performed an Indian routine to “Makoma” by King Paluta, to the delight to the audience.

 Jutta Addo crowned Miss Ghana 2025

 JUTTA Ama Pokuah Addo, a Law student at the Univer­sity of Profession­al Studies, Accra (UPSA) was crowned the winner of the Miss Ghana 2025 edition held over the weekend at the Avenue Event Centre in Accra.

The first run­ner-up was Maud Anti Oduro, while Melissa A-Mon­tah, placed third.

The national event brought together young women from each of Gha­na’s regions, all vying for the presti­gious title.

Jutta, representing the Central Region, beat the other contestants after weeks of intense competition.

The feat grants her the opportunity to represent Ghana at the 72nd Miss World Festival, to be held in Telangana, India, on May 7-31.

Miss Jutta Addo, who also won awards for Miss Photogenic and Miss Social Media/Voting, charmed the judges and audience with her eloquence, grace, and dedication to her advocacy.

As the new Miss Ghana, she will embark on a year of service, ambassadorial duties, and preparation for the Miss World competition which takes place in India.

The contestants were judged not only on beauty but also on their intelli­gence, public speaking skills, and commitment to social causes.

The finale was a glam­orous occasion, graced by personalities such as Gha­naian musician Okyeame Kwame, who delivered a lively performance that had the audience on their feet with his great hits. Song­stress Lucya, Acoustic Frey and DJ Ryna also serenad­ed the crowd with their soulful melodies, adding to the night’s unforgettable moments.

The night also celebrated other outstanding contes­tants with special awards, including Most Beautiful Skin – Miss Maud Anti Oduro; Miss Fitness – Miss Em­manuella Kudjordji; Most Disciplined – Miss Priscilla Nutornutsi; Miss Congeni­ality – Miss Melissa Mintah and Miss Talent – Miss Stella Saka.

Others include Miss Eloquence – Miss Theresa Weyerane; Miss Beauty With a Purpose (BWAP) went to four contestants as they touched the hearts of many with their projects.

They are Miss Melissa Mintah, Miss Jutta Addo, Miss Naa Ayeley Hammond and Miss Nana Adjoa and Miss Top Model, Emmanuella Kudjordji.

For 68 years, Miss Ghana has produced outstanding ambassadors who champion social causes and represent Ghana on global stages.

Miss Ghana was found­ed by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and 68 years on, celebrated beauty, intelli­gence, and the impactful legacy of Ghana’s most iconic pageant.

Europe edition of ‘The Journey’ show full of motivation- Abena Ghana

Ghanaian actress and television personality, Cecilia Gyase Konamah affectionately, called Abena Ghana, is set to touch lives with her Europe edition of ‘The Journey’ show.

This edition which focuses on Ghanaians in Belgium started airing yesterday on Adom TV at 11.30am.

The programme which is a talk show focuses on the stories of people who have had great life experiences worth sharing to inspire others,  

Speaking to The Spectator Agoro, Abena Ghana said, the new episode was to educate, motivate, and inspire viewers to know that success was achievable if one puts in hard work.

“Some of the stories are how hard it was for them to travel outside the country, how some of them got their passports as citizens in Belgium and the hustle they went through to achieve all they have now,” she revealed.

She said the viewers should expect more stories from the diaspora on how life is treating those there and also how they survive abroad.

Touching on the impact since the inception of the programme, she said, “We always receive good comments from the viewers and some sharing their life struggles and sometimes how it relates with some of our guests’ stories and gives them hope for the future.”
