Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill yet to be presented to President Akufo-Addo – Afenyo-Markin

Member of Parliament (MP) for the people of Effutu constituency and Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has revealed that the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill which was recently passed in Parliament is yet to be presented to President Akufo-Addo.
According to him, the bill is still in Parliament awaiting authentication and certification.
He made this revelation yesterday, March 4, during a session with the media in Parliament.
Mr.Afenyo-Markin said when a Bill is passed in Parliament it has to be compiled and tidied up by the drafting department due to the numerous amendments to the document.
“Thereafter, the Clarke would have to authenticate it and after the authentication, the Speaker would have to certify, it is when all these are done that the Bill is forwarded to the President for his assent,” he clarified.
Afenyo-Markin added, ” As we speak as a leader of the house, I can say on good authority that we have not completed the process.”
He said the public needs to know this to prevent the creation of a perception that Parliament has transmitted the Bill to the presidency.
According to him he had requested for the final document but was told it would take some time.
