From sleeping at lorry stations to RTP Award winner …King Lagazee recounts humble beginning
Host of Yaad Setting on Hitz FM,Isaac Ago Tetteh Monney, affectionately called King Lagazee has emotionally shared his story after winning Best Raggae Radio Show Host of the Year at this Year’s Radio and Television Personality(RTP) Awards.
According to him, it had been a long time dream, adding that winning the award on his seventh nomination underscored his hard work over the years.
Speaking to The Spectator, he said “It has been a long way, looking at where I started from, but we have the ‘Can Do’ spirit so we pushed very hard and we are here today.”
Recounting his early stages at Hitz FM, King Lgazee revealed that he used to stay at Somanya Eastern Region when he started working with Hitz FM in Accra, and shuffled between the Eastern and Greater Accra Region for a show which started at 8pm to 10pm.
“ I remember when I started playing music on Hitz 103.9 FM at the early stages, I was staying in Somanya and playing from 8pm – 10pm. I get to Madina everyday after the show, and there’s no vehicle going to Somanya at the time, I had to sleep at the lorry station at the mercy of the mosquitoes till 4am before the first car would be on scale to load,”he said.
He said, it never occurred to him, he was going to win, because he had received nomination for the past seven years without winning but the story changed this time round and he won.
“I want to say a big thank you to RTP Awards and all those who voted for me, the Yaad Settingz Crew, Lagazee Sound Int’l Crew etc. I say, ‘Asante Sana’ in Swahili meaning “thank you very much,” he said.
King Lagazee added that “I will like everyone to watch for Lagazee Sound Europe Tour and other exciting packages.
