The Head of Hospital Welfare at the Social Welfare Unit in the region, Mr Enoch Shirazudeen Biliguo who helped to identify the patients said there were over 300 more of such persons who needed help to settle their bills and expressed gratitude to the actress for helping to reduce the number.

“As a Social Welfare Department, we get daily reports on people who are unable to pay their hospital bills and we also are constrained financially so we are happy to note that an individual has taken it upon herself to assist in that regard”, he said.

He encouraged the actress to expand her benevolent acts to include more patients in future to enable the hospitals offset some of the effects of the unpaid bills.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiary patients at the Wa Municipal Hospital, the Hospital’s Administrator, Mr Samson Abu who was overwhelmed by the gesture also commended Ms Mumin for the gesture.

“Considering the operation of hospitals, you will realise that most of our items are not reusable leading to increased recurrent cost, so if these consumables are used on people who are unable to pay, then it becomes a burden on the hospital as some of them even abscond without the knowledge of the healthcare providers”, he said and thanked the foundation for the support.

With the halp of Unichem Ghana Limited, a Pharmaceutical Company in Accra, the actress again also presented boxes of hand sanitisers and other hospital supplies to the two facilities for healthcare delivery.

We will obey Bagbin’s decision, not Supreme Court – Ayariga

The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has indicated the National Democratic Congress MPs will go by the instructions of the Speaker.

According to him, the NDC will assume the Majority position in Parliament when the House reconvenes tomorrow, Tuesday, October 22.

Speaking to Bernard Avle, on Citi Breakfast Show, Mahama Ayariga stated that MPs are bound to act on the Speaker’s rulings, not on the Supreme Court’s stay of execution of Bagbin’s decision, which declared four parliamentary seats vacant.

The MP further argued that the NDC caucus will proceed with Bagbin’s original ruling until instructed otherwise.

“We will act according to Bagbin’s communique and until he communicates otherwise, we will go by his current decision and so if he comes and communicates to us what the court has ruled, we will act because we listen to the Speaker and not to the court,” he said.

According to him,“We are ignoring the Supreme Court because it is not supposed to interfere in our work and the constitution is clear on that so it is surprising that the Supreme Court which is the apex of the law will go ahead and rule when it should have stayed off.”

It would be recalled that the Speaker Alban Bagbin made a declaration on Thursday, October 17, that four parliamentary seats.

However, the Supreme Court on Friday October 18, issued a stay of execution against the Speaker’s decision.
