SWAG congratulates Ghana Armwrestling Federation

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has sent a congratulatory message to the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) for successfully hosting the 12th Africa Armwrestling Championship in Accra.
Ghana’s national team, the Golden Arms, emerged victorious in the continental championship with a total medal haul of 132.

By this, the Golden Arms have qualified for the 2023 Africa Games to be hosted by Ghana in 2024.

The icing on the cake was the qualification of Grace Mintah, Marian Kadri Moro and Wisdom Abromekyi for the world Combat Games scheduled for Saudi Arabia.

Fourteen African countries participated in the three day event. They included Egypt, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Cameroon, Benin and Sierra-Leone, Madagascar, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Chad and Gabon.

A statement signed by the president of SWAG, Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, lauded the leadership of Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, who doubles as the President of the Africa Armwrestling Association (AFA) for bringing honour to the nation through the exceptional organization of the event.

“Under your distinguished leadership, armwrestling has become the fastest growing sport in Ghana, attracting both young and old.”

“We are more than confident the Golden Arms will make Ghana truly proud next year during the 2023 Africa Games,” the statement emphasized.

Among the dignitaries who graced the competition in Accra were Messrs Assen Hadjitodorov, President of World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), Ms Mircea Simionescu (WAF), Elizebeth Sackey, and Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Mr Henry Quartey, Greater Accra Regional Minister and others.

Ghana’s U-15 Boys’ team kicks off CAF African Schools Football Championship against Uganda

Ghana’s U-15 boys’ team will begin their CAF African Schools Football Championship campaign against Uganda at 11 am on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

The team will then face South Africa on Thursday, followed by a match against Algeria to conclude the group phase. To progress to the semifinals, Ghana will need to finish either 1st or 2nd in their group.

The 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship kicks off on Wednesday, April 23, and wraps up on Friday, April 26, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Ghana’s U-15 girls’ team will kick off their CAF African Schools Football Championship campaign against Morocco at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

The team will then take on Benin on Thursday, followed by a match against Malawi to conclude the group phase. To secure a semifinal spot, Ghana will need to finish either 1st or 2nd in their group.

The 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship kicks off on Wednesday, April 23, and wraps up on Friday, April 26, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
