17 sets of twins prepare to start school in Scottish district
Seventeen twins set for school
A scottish local authority colloquially known as “Twinverclyde” is bracing itself for the second-largest number of twins on record starting primary school next week.
Schools in Inverclyde will welcome 17 sets of twins next Friday.
The only other time more twins started school in the region was in 2015, when 19 sets of twins started primary school.
On Friday, the majority of the 2023 class gathered at St Patrick’s Primary School in Greenock for a dress rehearsal ahead of their first day.
Most of the youngsters were present with 15 of the 17 sets of twins in attendance. St Patrick’s, along with Ardgowan Primary, is one of two schools in Inverclyde taking in the most pairs of twins, with three sets each joining their respective primary one classes.
The class of 2023 will take the Inverclyde twin count to 147 sets since 2013 – an average of 13 sets each year. Graeme Brooks, depute provost of Inverclyde Council, said: “It has become an annual tradition in Inverclyde, or Twinverclyde as we’ve become known, to welcome our twins into primary one.
“Excitement is definitely building for the start of the new term next week and what better way to look forward to that than seeing the pupils here looking resplendent in their uniforms.
“It’s also a good bit of fun for parents too – and a handy dress rehearsal ahead of the real thing next Friday. “We’re lucky to have so many incredible schools here in Inverclyde with every one renewed or extensively refurbished, including St Patrick’s which was rebuilt and opened in 2016, thanks to the council’s unprecedented quarter billion (£250,000,000) investment in our schools estate.

Texas woman’s tongue is the world’s widest at 3.11 inches
A Texas woman was awarded a Guinness World Records title for the surprising contents of her mouth – a 3.11-inch-wide tongue.
Brittany Lacayo told the record-keeping organization she decided to apply for the title after learning about the former record-holder, Emily Schlenker, whose tongue measured 2.89 inches wide.
Lacayo’s tongue is exactly as wide as the average length of an adult woman’s tongue: 3.11 inches.
Her tongue actually is wider than it is long when measured from the epiglottis, the flap of cartilage located behind the tongue.
“It is neat and kind of funny,” Lacayo told Guinness World Records.
The male version of the record belongs to American Brian Thompson, whose tongue measures 3.49 inches wide.

Ohio man’s dog license number earns him $50,000 lottery prize
An Ohio man used the numbers from his beloved dog’s license tag to play a Pick 5 lottery, drawing and scored a $50,000 prize.
Roger Sours of Tiffin told Ohio Lottery officials he bought a ticket for Wednesday’s Pick 5 drawing at the Pit Stop on N Washington Street in Tiffin and selected a special set of numbers: 1-0-8-2-2.
“I play two sets of numbers for Pick 5 and this number, the number that hit was actually my license number for my German Shepherd that I played. She’s no longer with us anymore,” he said.
Sours said he was shocked when he watched the lottery results on TV.
“I just sat here. I watched the lottery when I can, when it’s on TV and I just sat here. It was like, I froze. I just couldn’t believe that it hit,” he recalled.
Sours said his winnings will go toward taking care of some bills and giving a boost to his savings account.
