GH¢6 million shopping centre project for Wa in the pipeline
The Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region is to benefit from a GH¢6 million shopping centre project at Fadama under the World Bank’s Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme.
The shopping centre which would be constructed at Fadama, the central business district of Wa, under the first phase of the support programme would comprise 98 stores with police post, fire station, crèche, pavement, car park and a town hall.
This was announced by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Wa, Alhaji Issahaku Tahiru Moomin, at a news conference held here over the weekend to brief the media about the implementation of the sub-projects under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme in the municipality.
The Secondary Cities Support Programme which is part of government’s broader urban development and decentralisation drive seeks to improve urban management and basic urban services in participating municipal assemblies.
Alhaji Moomin hinted that Wa was the only municipality in the Upper West Region to have been selected for the project, alongside 24 other municipal assemblies across the country.
“Under the first phase of the programme, the assembly will construct a shopping centre at Fadama with modern stores that would be equipped with a fire station, police post, crèche, car pack and a 300-sitting capacity town hall,” he stated.
He explained that it was relevant to construct the centre to ensure that trading at the market was done in a safe, convenient and harmonised environment.
The MCE said the procurement processes for the construction had been completed and the contract had also been awarded for the commencement of the project, adding that the entire project was scheduled to be completed within nine months.
He stated that the plot for the construction had already been acquired and affected persons had been resettled, adding, “we have over 150 market women in that area and all of them have been provided with alternative places where they could transact business. We have given them stores at the new market.”
He said the project had attained the support of all relevant stakeholders within the municipality, after they were detailed on the scope and relevance of the project.
He expressed confidence that when completed, the project would enhance economic well-being of the citizenry.

Recall all Diplomatic and Service Passports- John Mahama to Foreign Affairs Ministry
President John Dramani Mahama directs Foreign Affairs Ministry to recall all Diplomatic and Service passports by 24th January.
Following this there would be re-issuance to those rightfully eligible.
In a letter to the ministry by Secretary to the President, Dr.Callistus Mahama noted that , ” I write to request the recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued by the previous
administration.”
According to him, this exercise aligns with the Government’s commitment to ensuring the proper use and
administration of official travel documents by national and international standards.
He added that the
recall aims to prevent misuse, safeguard the country’s reputation and maintain the integrity of our diplomatic engagements.
He further directed that “the Ministry should take the following steps to facilitate the process:
a. Issue a Public Notice: Notify all holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports Issued by the previous administration to return these documents to the Ministry for
verification and re-issuance, where applicable.”

Update Ghanaians on killers of Ahmed Suale within 48 hours- APlus tell Police
Member of Parliament for the people of Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, affectionately called APlus has given the Ghana Police Service a 48-hour ultimatum.
According to him, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director has within that period to brief the nation on the update of the killers of late investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale.
In a post on his Facebook page yesterday, he stated “Last year, I was invited to the CID headquarters to provide information regarding the murder of Ahmed Suale. During the meeting, I identified a high-profile minister from the previous government who was allegedly involved in contracting assailants to carry out the crime. I also disclosed my source, a highly credible one, in the presence of the CID director.”
He added “It is critical that the CID director updates the public on the progress of the investigation and indicate with justification whether additional time is required.”
Against this backdrop, he pointed out that “At this point, it appears the matter has been sidelined. If no update is provided within 48 hours, I will invoke my authority as a Member of Parliament to formally summon the Ghana Police Service to brief Parliament on this case.”
“Should that fail, I will utilize my Facebook and other social media platforms to update the nation on what I know about the matter which shall include the name of the alleged perpetrator.Thank you,” he concluded.
