Beneficiary schools presented a citation in honour of Mr Daniel Addo, Managing Director

Consolidated Bank, Ghana (CBG) has made a donation of computers to three schools in the Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region to enhance the studies of technology at the basic level of education.

The recipient schools were Bipoa Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Junior High School, Agona SDA Junior High School and Bedomase D/A Basic School, with each receiving 10 desktop computers.

Mr Daniel Addo, Managing Director of the Bank, said it was important to contribute to the development and sustainability of the communities they served.

He disclosed that their Corporate Social Responsible initiatives focused on three core pillars-Health, Community Development and Education, and that through these pillars they actively contributed to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) addressing key areas that would drive progress and wellbeing.

Mr. Addo noted that Agona like many other communities, thrived on agriculture, yet it faced challenges in accessing certain essential resources, particularly in information technology (IT) education.

He said the computers would open the doors to new opportunities and allow students to build essential IT skills, and commended the Gyasiwaa Education Support for their invaluable role in identifying the beneficiary schools and ensuring that their efforts would have the greatest impact where it was needed most.

The Managing Director disclosed that in addition to the computers, they had also given the schools a much-needed facelift across all the three schools by doing some electrical, painting and tiling works and refurbished their ICT laboratories.

Mr. Desmond Kwadwo Mensah, Headmaster of Bipoa SDA Junior High School on behalf of the three beneficiary schools expressed gratitude to the CBG for the kind gesture.

He promised the computers would be used effectively for the intended purpose to improve ICT education, saying the students in the area always performed well in the theory aspect of ICT but could not perform in the practicals because of the lack of equipment.

Nana Osei Kwadwo, the chief linguist, who represented Nana Gyapa Ameyaw, chief of Bipoa, commended CBG for the impactful initiatives to raise the standard of education in the community and nearby ones.

The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has presented scholarships to 50 brilliant students in the Shama District of the Western Region.

The beneficiaries are part of WAPCo’s scholarship awards given to 70 students in host communities including Greater Accra Region, for this year, totalling GHȻ462,000.

The beneficiaries who are pursuing various courses in tertiary institutions came from Shama, Abuesi, Aboadze and Lower Inchaban communities.

In addition to these new scholarships, WAPCO is also supporting about 120 continuing students across institutions in Ghana totalling GHȻ750,000, this year.

This brings the total investment of WAPCo in the education of students from its seven host communities in Ghana for this academic year to about GHȻ 1.2million.

The Managing Director of WAPCo, Mrs Michelle Burkett, remarked that, the event celebrated not only the accomplishments of remarkable individuals, but, also to reaffirm the   commitment of WAPCo to the future of the communities.

The   mission of WAPCo, Mrs Burkett stated, went beyond the gas transportation services they provided and involved a broader vision of fostering growth, innovation and opportunities in host communities.

She also said, the scholarships were a testament to WAPCo’s vision and commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders, thinkers and change makers.

The WAPco MD recognised that beneficiaries had excelled academically and shown a profound commitment to their personal and professional development, stressing “Their journey is a testament to their hard work and to the support of their families, teachers and mentors.”

The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, WAPCo, Dr Issac Adjei Doku, noted that, this year’s awards was remarkable, marking the 10th batch of their annual scholarship awards.

He indicated that, as WAPCo marked the significant milestone of its scholarship programme, it was also reflecting on a decade of transformative impact in the society and the community that it operated in.

To date, he said, WAPCo’s scholarships had benefitted 642 students in seven host communities, comprising 356 males and 286 females.

The beneficiaries, he said, had demonstrated exceptional talent and an unwavering commitment to their education, and that, the award was not just a recognition of their past accomplishment, “but also a good of confidence in your future.

The District Director of Education, Mr Raphael Aidoo-Taylor, saluted WAPCo for the scholarship awards which would empower the students by providing them with the financial support, reinforce their needs to pursue higher education and achieve their dreams.
