‘Betway 12th Man’ programme returns

The Betway 12th Man programme, an initiative by online sports betting company, Betway, to provide ex-footballers with entrepreneurial skills has returned after taking a short break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The programme which was unveiled this year, in partnership with Ghanaian football legend, Stephen Appiah, would have ex-footballers embark on a life changing journey which will see them graduate with variety of skills and qualifications to increase their chances of employment.

The 10 participants were Yaw Amankwah Mireku, Adwoa Bayor, Abass Hamdiya, Ali Jarrah, Awudu Issaka, Dan Quaye, Isaac Amoako, Lydia Ankrah, Patrick Villars and Peter Ofori Quaye.

Resource persons imclude ace broadcaster, Kwabena Yeboah and former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President, Fred Pappoe with participants taken through educational sessions on COVID-19, entrepreneurship, leadership and strategy.

Speaking to the media, Kwabena Oppong Nkrumah, a representative of Betway said the company takes pride in honouring and offering skills to football heroes who have done so much for the country.

Other workshops scheduled for later this month would include training programmes on Marketing, Project Management and Sports Management.

An elated Ali Jarrah said the workshop on entrepreneurship, club administration; leadership and strategy have been very beneficial as has provided knowledge on how to run his goalkeeping academy.

Black Satellites Hold First Training Session in Ismailia Ahead of Decisive Group C Encounter

Shortly after touching down in Ismailia, Ghana’s Black Satellites hit the ground running with their first training session ahead of Thursday’s Group C fixture against the Central African Republic at the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Egypt 2025.

The training, held at the Tolip 1 training pitch, saw a divided workload. Players who started in the team’s second group match against Senegal were put through a light recovery session, while the rest of the squad engaged in a more intensive workout.

The energy on the pitch was positive, with players upbeat and fully engaged as they sharpened their preparations for the showdown at Ismailia Stadium which kicks off at 1800 local time (1500 GMT).

Head Coach Desmond Ofei praised the team’s mindset and professionalism in quickly adjusting to their new environment.

“The attitude today was spot on. The boys understand what’s at stake, and the tempo at training reflected that. We’re building toward Thursday with confidence,” Ofei stated.

With two games down and all to play for in the final Group match, the Satellites are hoping to harness this momentum and passion to secure the win that will cement their place in the quarterfinals.

Black Starlets begin second phase of screening exercise with 44 players called to report to camp in Kumasi

The Black Starlets are set for the second phase of their screening exercise, with players from the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper West, and Upper East Regions invited to camp in Kumasi.

 The first batch of 44 players will report to the Christian Village Guest House & Leadership Training Centre, Santasi Apire, near Opoku Ware School and St. Hubert Seminary for a three-day training session.

The first batch will arrive on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, while the second batch will report on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Coach Frimpong Manso and his team are on the hunt for talented young players to form the next Black Starlets squad, aiming to excel in the 2025/26 WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations and the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

This second phase of the screening exercise offers selected players another chance to shine and secure a spot in the team.
